Every year, we like to take a moment to sit back and reflect on how things went over the past year as we enter the holiday season. It’s hard to believe that another year is almost in the books already, but with 2021 drawing to a close, now is a great time to look back on what has unfolded over the past year.

We started the year with a prediction that 5G would make enterprise mobility more important than ever. While that prediction continues to unfold throughout the year, 2021 has seen a significant uptick in enterprise mobility adoption as well as connected devices across a variety of different work environments.

In February (hard to believe that was still 2021!), we spent a couple weeks examining Google’s showdown with Apple after Apple announced that it would enact app “nutrition labels” for everyone in the App Store that shared information about how user data was being stored and used and how seriously developers treat privacy. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Google relented eventually and resumed updating its iOS apps after the drawn-out standoff.

Later in the spring, we examined how—primarily as a result of the pandemic—mobile productivity apps were downloaded more frequently than ever throughout 2020. Elsewhere in pandemic news, we discussed the staying power of enterprise mobility in a “work-from-home” world. Of course, with much of the population vaccinated and companies eager to get back to normal, it seems that the idea that all companies would be primarily work-from-home has been dialed down just a bit since the start of the year.

Throughout the year, we devoted quite a bit of time to examining the importance of security in the enterprise mobility space. We covered the heightened importance of strong security procedures in a work-from-home environment, highlighted a startling increase in mobile-based phishing and other social engineering attempts, and even looked at the widespread privacy issues in mobile healthcare apps. Unsurprisingly, security remains a priority for us.

All things considered, 2021 has been another exciting year here at App47 and in the enterprise mobility space as a whole. While we’re still not convinced that the end of the year is actually around the corner, we’re nonetheless excited to see what 2022 has in store.

From all of us at the App47 team to you, we hope you have a wonderful holiday season and are able to find some time to relax as we quickly approach the start of the New Year. We’re not sure what next year has in store, but we hope there are many good things in your future. See you in 2022!
