Heading into this weekend, you’ve no doubt seen the the constant stream of ads and flyers promoting Memorial Day sales: new cars, new appliances, new grills–you name it. There’s certainly no shortage of things to go out and buy this weekend “for” Memorial Day (at least under normal, non-pandemic circumstances!).
But as we do every year, before cracking open a cold one or grilling burgers with your family, we think it’s important to remember why we actually celebrate Memorial Day: to honor those who have died in service of our great country.
Many of us here at App47 have close ties to the military, and to men and women who have fought and died for our country. And of course, being in the D.C. area, we’re never more than a few steps away from a reminder of someone else’s military service. We are eternally grateful to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy the freedoms we do here at home.
So, as you enjoy your long weekend, we encourage you to step back and think about the real reason we celebrate Memorial Day. Thank you to all those who serve, and most importantly, to those who have died in service to our country. From the App47 team to you, happy Memorial Day.
