Looking forward to this year’s MobileCon in San Jose, especially because it appears like it’s going to follow through on the strong enterprise mobility focus promised in years past. With respect to communications,an industry so often cited as being on the technological forefront, MobileCon in year’s past has been concentrating almost exclusively on the concerns of telecom. And while it’s cool to talk fiber optics, microwave transmissions, and satellites, today’s communication landscape has tilted its interest overwhelmingly away from massive infrastructure, and more toward the devices — and the enterprise mobile apps running on those devices — that everyone keeps in their pockets.
That’s why I’m excited about this event. Enterprise mobility is no longer a side-show; it’s moving on to the main stage. The events, the vendors . . . everything speaks to a better, more accurate reflection of today’s mobile world. Specific to my attendance, about this time next week I’ll be involved in the MobileCon Fast Pitch event, a fundraising-focused presentation I’m finalizing that will illuminate how VCs are waking up to the new mobile landscape, and why it’s absolutely worth their investment dollars.
For App47, it’s about our outright disruption of enterprise mobility. What began as voice and evolved to include data has now exploded to support a dizzying variety of capabilities, each empowered by a specific app dedicated to that task. Any one of us armed with a tablet or smartphone knows that voice has become a sliver of mobility today. The impact of mobile apps as a game changer can’t be overstated. And that’s the point of entry for Mobile Application Management, MAM. Just a few years ago, mobile communications was, of course, device based. We could call and talk and that was amazing. Remember how much we loved our Nokias? Now it’s about collaboration, filesharing, document management, inventory tracking, e-signatures, booking flights, finding a decent steak. That’s all taking place at the app level. Our mission is to help develop, deploy and manage any enterprise mobile app faster and more easily, while ensuring the security enterprise demands.
The enterprise app focus is still in its infancy — around building the app, back-end-as-service, etc. Basically, it’s about building the apps. The next logical step, one we’re ready to help everyone interested in enterprise mobility take, has to be about management. That’s the mission of MAM, and what we’re excited to champion. Count on my to say as much, and as convincingly as possible.
See you next week at MobileCon!
