The end of last week was a West Coast whirlwind of enterprise mobility insight. Spending three days at MoDevTablet, and being able to present on a few different topics, made for plenty of discussions and predictions.
For me, the compelling takeaways were prophetic:
- The HTML 5 excitement is the real deal. While it’s not yet on par with native capability, it’s positioning itself to step in and fulfill a vital “third platform” role, especially as Microsoft Surface makes its industry play. And if you think about the idea that Microsoft is being considered an emerging third player in enterprise mobility, that’s worth a chin-scratch right there. Perhaps? It’s not there yet, but the year ahead should be interesting.
- Heroku got some good reception. Attendees were amazed at how quickly they could deploy to the cloud. As more and more people seek ways to easily scale mobile apps and data, this is going to be a welcome evolution.
- I had a lot of fun at my native android talk. People realized that fragmentation is a real issue with the platform. It will be interesting to see how we approach that issue as an industry going forward.
- Finally, node.js is the bomb! People loved it and really liked how easily and quickly it can be used to build apps. That’s the kind of convenience that fuels app dev creativity — the lifeblood of enterprise mobility right now!
Thanks again, MoDevTablet. And props to Pete Erickson for another great event!
