Are you ready for GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, is set to go into effect one week from today on May 25, 2018. It’s been making headlines around the tech community, including here on our blog, where we’ve discussed both what the GDPR-related implications are for App47 customers, and what updates we’re making to our platform to help customers remain compliant with the new regulations.

Despite the fact that companies have had nearly two years to become compliant with the law, according to a recent article by Enterprise Mobility Exchange, many companies still aren’t prepared.

As EME notes, a number of recent reports have found that many companies just aren’t taking GDPR seriously. A report by Crowd Research Partners, for example, found only 7% of companies in full compliance with the requirements, and that 60% of respondents “are at risk of missing the GDPR deadline.” Reasons for non-compliance range from lack of expertise to lack of budget, although EME notes that complying with GDPR is complicated.

One expert who spoke with EME–Michael Osterman of Osterman research–thinks that, Like HIPAA in the past, it will take a set of follow-up laws with actual teeth for folks to start taking compliance seriously. Despite that, companies should not be lax when it comes to complying with these new regulations. The penalties for non-compliance are severe, and we sure wouldn’t want to be the first ones to find out how regularly the EU plans to enforce GDPR.

As for App47, we’re doing our part to help our customers remain compliant. Changes rolling out to our agent technology in the very near future will allow customers to limit data collection, minimizing opportunities for contact with personally-identifiable information. What’s more, we recently published in clear and concise terms how App47 customers should respond to GDPR with regards to our product. In other words, we want to make sure that App47 is not a roadblock to your compliance!

With just a week remaining for companies to get their ducks in a row, now is as good a time as ever to make sure you aren’t among the companies that are out of compliance with GDPR. Better safe than sorry!
